The Waterloo Region Shares project recently reached its fifth and final year.  The Report the Community attached outlines some of the project's accomplishments.  A summative evaluation undertaken in 2011 determined the project should continue.  Waterloo Region Shares is currently working with member agencies to determine key priorities moving forward.

In case you missed it in 2011, the Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries identified several recommendations for healthy eating (and enhancing food security) for marginalized communities in Cambridge an surrounding communities.  Read more about it here.

Just Out - Cost of a Nutritious Food Basket

Just out from the Region of Waterloo Public Health is the cost of a nutritious food basket in Waterloo Region.  This year the estimated weekly cost for a healthy food basket is $ 168.89.  Apologies for the poor quality scan.

Don't forget to vote on May 2nd.  The website www.waterlooregionvotes.ca has information on all candidate meetings, who's running for election and more.  The attachment below, produced by the Kitchener Downtown Health Centre answers questions such as, "How do I vote if I don't have an address?", or "How do I vote?" in general.

Free Tax Clinics

Free tax clinics are now available in Cambridge, Wilmot, Woolwich, Kitchener and Waterloo.  You will find details through the following link; http://freetaxclinicswaterlooregion.wordpress.com/.  Eligibility criteria varies by location, so to determine if someone is eligible for assistance, first look at the locations where the service is provided.  It will list the eligibility criteria.

ALIV(e) stands for Awareness of Low Income Voices.  ALIV(e) was co-founded by Opportunities Waterloo Region in 2007.  They bring the voice of individuals who have lived or are living with low income to the forefront of our community.  They are currently looking for more core members to attend meetings and/or share their story and ensure the voices of everyone are heard.  You can find more information on their website:  www.alivecommunity.ca.
